Let’s Sleep Well Tonight

From to Lush and Avon, these are the top products that I’ve found to help me relax and get the best night’s sleep.

I do find that sometimes it’s hard for me to get to sleep, my mind is most active at night and I can feel myself rolling over and over trying to drift away. I’ve been on the hunt and trying out different products for a while to see what has been most effective for me and my favourite to use. Below I will share the best products I’ve found, links to where you can purchase them and what I think about them.

Mists & Sprays

Pixi Beauty – Dream-y Mist

Can be purchased for £16 here. This is a sleep-enhancing elixir, jam-packed with the natural aromatics of Lavender and Jasmine – a soothing facial mist to help leave you skin feeling calm before sleep. My favourite part of this mist, is that it is full of antioxidants, this means it helps to protect your skin’s surface from oxidative damage (such as pollution and UV). I love using this last thing on a night, to help my skin refresh for the next day.

Avon – Beauty Sleep Pillow Mist

Can be purchased for £4 here. This Pillow Mist was a great bargain at £4, it has quite a strong but relaxing smell that is long lasting. I’ve used different pillow mists before and have ended up not being able to smell them after a really short period of time – so I was super impressed to notice it still after a few minutes/as I was falling asleep.

Avon – Lavender & Chamomile Body Mist

Can be purchased for £2 here. Although this is a body mist, I use this as a room spray before bed, just to create a peaceful aroma to drift off in. This honestly leaves my room smelling gorgeous, and I can imagine that if you’d prefer to use it as a body mist that it would work lovely.

Mario Badescu – Facial Spray with Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender

Can be purchased for £6.75 here. I know that these sprays/brand seem to be quite controversial and a hit or miss on whether they’re liked, but I’m quite a fan of this product! This is a face spray I use on nights where I feel I need cool down before I can sleep, it’s a refreshing and cooling spray that provides me with an instant hydration boost.

thisworks – Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

I got a mini in a gift set from Oliver Bonas, but the full size can be purchased for £19.50 from here. I do recommend this for someone looking for a more luxurious pillow spray, as this is pretty high-quality based on my experience (I am glad I got to try it), but if it came to be choosing between £4 and £19.50 I would pick Avon (just for my budget). The pillow spray is long lasting and with quite gentle scent to help you drift away peacefully.

Body Lotion

Lush – Sleepy Body Lotion

Can be purchased for £16 here. I am obsessed with this body lotion, going as far to say it is my favourite one. It is perfect for getting you ready for bed, it helps to destress and removes the tension out of your muscles as you apply it, not to mention the Lavender scent is very calming. It’s quite a thick lotion, but it soaks into your skin well and quite quickly and it doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy. With the combination of cocoa butter, almond oil and glycerine, this lotion works perfectly to leave your skin feeling moisturised and silky smooth. I have my back-up pot ready to break into, once this one has finished.

(Self-Heating) Eye Masks

I’ll be honest, I still don’t quite the science of how these eye masks are self-heating, all I know is that I’m hooked and they’re a staple in my routine now.

Spacemasks – Interstellar Self-Heating Eye Masks

Can be purchased for £15 (for 5) here. These are the (original) Jasmine-scented masks, that I originally discovered by the lovely Lysha’s Reviews on Instagram. If I ever can’t get to sleep due to a headache or migraine, I turn to these eye masks. These instantly work to relieve the tension in my head and behind my eyes to help me fall asleep with in 15 minutes – a miracle worker.

I won’t go into too much detail on Spacemasks, as I have talked about them previously on my Instagram here.

MegRhythm – Gentle Steam Warming Eye Mask

Can be purchased for £6.85-£6.99 (for 5) here. These are Lavender-scented eye masks, similar to the Spacemasks but at a much more affordable price (around ~£1.40 each in comparison to £3). I find that these work exactly the same as the above masks, but just have a different scent. So it really depends how much you want to spend and the scent you are looking for.

GO2 – Inhaler Sleep Stick

Can be purchased for £3.99 here. I’ve never used inhaler sticks before, but decided to give the GO2 Sleep stick a try after seeing so many positive reviews online, and I have not been disappointed. These inhalers are full of natural essential oils (Lavender, Red Mandarin & Frankincense) to help promote the quality of your sleep. I find that two sniffs before bed is enough to relax my senses and clear my mind before I go to sleep.

What I find that works for me, may not work for someone else, but I hope through sharing my experiences and thoughts that you may discover a new product to try! If you want to know anymore about the products feel free to comment below or message me on Instagram.

Thanks for checking out my post!

Tony Moly – so cute, but worth the hype?

Tony Moly is probably one of the cutest brands that I have come across, I just love their packaging. They are a key Korean Beauty brand, launching back in 2006 to produce a range of innovative and unique skincare.

They’ve grown to be quite a household name, but I’m going to be talking about my experiences and whether I think the products (that I have tried) have been worth the hype?

Tony Moly products I have tried:

I’m Aloe Mask Sheet

Purchase here for £4.50

I had a pretty positive experience with this sheet mask, I found it very hydrating and moisturising, and it was great for softening dry patches during winter. I did suffer a couple of pink patches on my face after using this mask, but luckily they cleared up quickly and so wasn’t much of an issue. This mask was nice don’t get me wrong, but I think £4.50 is a little steep, as it doesn’t completely blow me away! I have reviewed this on my Instagram here.

Is it worth the hype? Not really, it’s just a basic hydrating sheet mask, and I can get ones that do the same thing for half the price. I am however, super interested in trying their ‘I’m Red Wine’ sheet mask.

Tako Pore Sun Stick SPF50+ PA++++

Purchase here for £8.12-£8.54 [enter ‘BETHSPARKLE’ at checkout for money off]

I normally use SPF in a liquid format, so at first I really struggled to know how much product to use and if it was enough. Once I got the hang of it, I actually found it to be really effective as a stick, as you definitely had a lost less waste, since there was no issue of accidentally squeezing too much out. The product applies easily, feels light under makeup and absorbs really well into the skin.

Is it worth the hype? Yes it is. Cute, compact and protective.

Moisture Boost Cooling Algae Eye Serum

I got mine from TK Maxx, but I’ve found it here to purchase for £12.82

I really have a love/hate relationships with eye creams, they either feel really nice around my eyes or irritate the heck out of me straight away. This one didn’t quite sit right with me at first, but after a few uses it felt absolutely fine. It felt very cooling and my under eye area did feel moisturised after use, it does say that it can add elasticity but I didn’t notice any of this.

Is it worth the hype? Yes I think it is, if you’re looking for a light eye cream that is cooling and moisturising. I would say no it isn’t worth the hype, if you’re looking for an eye cream to target a specific under eye problem.

Panda’s Dream, Rose Hyaluronic Face Cream

I got mine from TK Maxx, but I’ve found it here to purchase for £10.78

This is such a light and hydrating moisturiser, I’m just annoyed I got it close to winter as I’d say this is perfect for summer! My only real problem with this, is that the rose scent is too strong for me, I don’t mind a slight rose scent just not one as much as this. But on with the positives, this cream does absorb really quickly, it doesn’t feel heavy and it also doesn’t leave me feeling greasy, and along with being a hydrating cream, it’s also contains anti-inflammatory properties which I love!

Is it worth the hype? Yes it is, even with the scent, I think it will become a staple in my summertime skincare.

Tako Pore One Shot Nose Pack

Purchase here for £3.50

What a fantastic mask this was, a pore mask that actually worked – how can I not love it? It did exactly what it said on the packet, as all the gunk, impurities and dirt were removed by the mask. I was really impressed – I still am to be fair, my nose felt a lot smoother and I noticed that my makeup sat better on it the next day for work. I have reviewed this (and showed what was removed) on my Instagram here.

Is it worth the hype? Yes! Probably one of the only nose pore masks I’ve tried that actually worked!

Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm

I got mine from TK Maxx, but I’ve found it here to purchase for £15

Did I buy this product simply because it was shaped as an egg and I was curious? Absolutely – 100%. Was it a waste of money? No not really. I’ve actually really enjoyed using this product as a primer, I wouldn’t say it was favourite primer but it does the job. It does help to create a smooth base for my makeup, however I don’t find it to be very moisturising (even though it is described as a moisturising primer).

Is it worth the hype? 50/50. As a matte primer, yes, it creates a great base for the day. As a moisturising product, no, I didn’t notice any of these benefits.

Overall…are they worth the hype? Yes, I think they are! They have some products that really shine above others, and have made a positive difference to my skin. (I really loved the pore nose pack!) Now not ever product worked for me, but you always find that with a brand, there’s always going to be some products you enjoy more than others (and the cute packaging is just a bonus!). So yes, they are worth the hype and I can see why they’ve become such a well know, trusted and popular brand!

Tony Moly Products I’d like to try next:

  • Pocket Bunny Sleek Mist 60ml – Oil Controlling Face Mist
  • I’m Red Wine Sheet Mask – Pore Care
  • Tako Pore Blackhead Scrub Stick
  • Tako Pore Sebum Control Gel Cream

Thanks for joining me in my Tony Moly journey, I would love to know your thoughts on the brand too!

I got my first Influenster VoxBox!

Hi and welcome to my proper first post on my blog, today I will be talking about Influenster and the OPI VoxBox that I received. I hope you enjoy.

What is Influenster?

Influenster is a platform for people to share reviews and stories on products they’ve tried, whether it’s good or bad to help you find the next best product to use. Alongside reviewing products, you can ask questions, take part in polls and hopefully earn a VoxBox of products to try. This app is perfect for anyone who wants to share a review on something they have tried, it’s not just for beauty either, it covers a range of topics including food, pet care, technology, travel and home care.

What is a VoxBox?

A VoxBox is a box of free goodies, often full size that is sent to you for testing purposes.

Companies work with Influenster to send these products out for testing purposes, as they rely on people to provide honest feedback on their products to help them improve and see how the community responds. It’s important to note, that even if you are an Influenster Member, you are not guaranteed to get a VoxBox. There are ways to help you have more of a chance of getting one, which leads me onto my next question…

How do I get a VoxBox?

  1. You need to be using the Influenster App. This is free and it is needed as the activities for your VoxBox Campaign are done through the app. [App Store Link] [Google Plays Link]
  2. Sign up for Influenster, you have to be a member to be in for a chance of receiving a VoxBox, make sure to fully fill in your details and information. They say the more they know about you and your preferences, the easier it is for them to send a VoxBox suited to you.
  3. Complete your ‘Snaps’. These are questions you can get involved with to see what products you use and it allows Influenster to get to know you a little more, this again helps you to get a more suitable box.
  4. Make sure your social media profiles accounts are connected (especially Instagram as in the campaign I was involved with, it required me to share my review on my Instagram). Along with your Influenster followers, the followers you have on social account help to build up your impact score, the higher this number is the more likely chance there is for you to receive a VoxBox.
  5. Use the app and see what happens. In my experience, I just kept posting and interacting with other people on Influenster until I was contacted about my first VoxBox.

My Experience with a VoxBox

How did it work?

I received an email from Influenster on 17th November 2020, which said I had been shortlisted for their next VoxBox campaign (OPI Rainbow), and I had the option to ‘Opt-in’ or ‘Opt-out’ of the campaign, which had to be done by the 18th (the next day!). To Opt-in, you then had to complete a survey to see if you were a fit for the campaign, I didn’t find out straight away if I had been chosen or not. I didn’t hear anything for a while, so I just presumed that I hadn’t been chosen as I had read online that in most experiences people had heard back in a few days. It wasn’t until December 12th, almost a month later that I got an email with the subject “You’re In, Beth!😉” Woo! I’d done it, it let me know the VoxBox was on it’s way for me to try, what was included in the box and a link so I could check out the activities required in the box. The VoxBox actually arrived the next day, which made me think there maybe had been a delay with the email. I then had 4 weeks to try the products and complete the different activities in the campaign, Influenster also sent me a couple of emails during the time to remind me about completing the activities to make sure I got them done on time.

What activities did I have to do as part of the campaign?

  • Follow OPI on Instagram
  • Review on OPI UK website
  • Post on your Instagram Story

They provided you with helpful tips to produce the best content, the required hashtags you needed to include and the necessary wording to show that you received these products complimentary. They made it really easy for me to follow correctly. Now onto the exciting bit…

What was in the box?

Nail Lacquer Natural Base Coat – £13.90

Can be purchased here.

This created such a smooth base for the nail colours, and it didn’t change how the colour looked. I used this on my toe nails first and when I took my polish off after almost 2 weeks, there was no staining to my nails underneath. It’s definitely a shiny base coat, but you could just wear it on its own for natural and healthy looking nails.

Nail Lacquer, in the shade ‘Polly Want a Lacquer?’ – £13.90

Can be purchased here.

This was a gorgeous lilac/lavender nail polish, and my absolute favourite shade out of the three. This colour applied very easily to my nails, and it created a smooth and silky finish. I only had to use one coat of varnish for a non-streaky look, which I was very impressed by.

Nail Lacquer, in the shade ‘No Turning Back From Pink Street’ – $10.50

I couldn’t find this product on the OPI UK site, but I found it on their US site here.

This was a really pretty pink/magenta shade, it wasn’t my favourite as the lilac/lavender stole the show. However, it performed as well as the purple by applying easily and only needing one coat.

Nail Lacquer, in the shade ‘Alpine Snow’ – £13.90

Can be purchased here.

I hate to say it, but I was disappointed with this shade – I have to be honest. It was really viscous compared to the other shades, which made it harder to apply and in fact it actually appeared quite lumpy on my nails. I think it might be because I tried to do a full nail of colour and it would have worked better as just a French tip, yet I’m still not sure how easy this would have been with how thick it was.

Nail Lacquer Top Coat – £13.90

Can be purchased here.

No complaints about this top coat. My nails barely chipped by the time I removed the colour on my toes, I was super impressed as my nails chip so quickly for me normally. I would never normally pay this much for a top coat, or any of the other products actually, but it really showed me that investing a little more into these products does actually make a difference.

I am super thankful to Influenster for this opportunity of testing out this range of OPI Nail Polishes. It was really exciting to get involved with this campaign, especially since I only stopped biting my nails last year and I’m trying hard to keep them looking pretty!

If you’re already on Influenster and you want to support one another, check out my page here.

I hope you enjoyed my first blog post, I honestly feel I put more effort into it than my Apprenticeship coursework in the last 6 months – but it shows when you enjoy something it’s easier to make that effort.

Welcome! 09.01.2021

Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m Beth and it’s nice to meet you! I plan to keep this first post (and introduction) short, as you can find out more in my About Me page. This is just my first post to get my blog rolling.

We’re currently in the middle of another Lockdown and I’ve turned my attention to starting a blog, a place where I can talk all about beauty, skincare and lifestyle – while it also gives me something to focus on during this pandemic! I’m planning to share reviews, experiences, stories etc. while I dive into the world of beauty.

I hope you enjoy my blog and I can’t wait to connect with you! See you in my next post.
